Gup Level Ho Sin Sul

The examples given below are based upon the attacker grabbing your right wrist with their left hand unless otherwise indicated. Naturally, the student should practice being grabbed by either hand.

  1. Attacker grabs your right wrist with their left hand. Step with your left leg back into a Horse-riding Stance. As you do rotate the right wrist counter-clockwise pulling the hand towards the left and, working against their thumb, out of their grasp. Keep pulling your right hand back in preparation for a back fist strike. Back fist with your right hand against the left side of the opponent’s face. Slide into a front stance between their legs and reverse punch to their chest.
  2. Attacker grabs your right wrist with both of their hands. Reach between the opponent’s hands from above and grab your own right fist. Pull upwards and outward against your opponent’s thumbs bringing both of your hands over your left shoulder stepping as you pull with the left leg into a Horse-riding Stance.. Back fist with your right hand the left side of your opponent’s face. Slide into a front stance between their legs and reverse punch to their chest.

  1. Attacker grabs your right wrist with their left hand. “Aspirin bottle defense”. Reach with your left hand over top of the opponent’s left (grabbing) hand placing your thumb in between their thumb and first finger and grab the fleshy part of the left hand by the little finger. As soon as you make contact with their hand begin rotating all three hands (theirs and both of yours) counter-clockwise. Keep rotating until the hands have past 12:00, 11:00 and 10:00. At this time their hand is trapped between your left hand and your right wrist. Let go with your right wrist and slide down their arm to their elbow. By twisting their hand with your left hand and bending their elbow with your right hand you will trap them bent over.
  2. Attacker grabs your right wrist with their left hand. Rotate your right hand clockwise until your right palm is in front of your own chest. With your left hand reach underneath and around the opponent’s hand and grab their thumb. Once you have their thumb rotate their hand (their body will follow) clockwise. Step with the open side leg (The left leg in this instance) inward at a 450 into a Front Stance.

  1. Attacker grabs your right wrist with their left hand. Swing your left hand inward and grab the opponent’s left wrist. Step with the Left leg into a high front stance. Step forward (forward at this point was originally your left) with your right foot raising all three hands (your two and their one) high enough to duck below. Eventually you will turn back towards the attacker and lower all three hands. They will be quite twisted. (Do not raise the arms too high, in fact try not to raise them at all. Rather duck underneath as you loop around.)
  2. Attacker grabs both of your wrist, your right with their left, your left with their right. Rotate your right hand clockwise until your right palm is in front of your own chest. With your left hand reach underneath and around the opponent’s hand and grab their thumb. Once you have their thumb rotate their hand (their body will follow) clockwise. You may want to step back with your right leg.

  1. Attacker bear-hugs you from behind. With your right hand reach behind and strike their groin. As they relax their grip drop to a horse-riding stance. With your left elbow, strike their left upper rib cage. With your right elbow, strike their right upper rib cage. Step with you right foot forward about an inch. With your left foot rotate backwards into a front stance facing the attacker. Reverse middle punch the opponent’s chest.
  2. Attacker bear-hugs from in front . Knee them lightly in the groin. As they relax their grip drop to a horse-riding stance. With your right forearm strike the left side of their upper rib cage. Then strike their upper left rib cage with your left forearm. With your right leg step back into a front stance and reverse punch their chest.

  1. Attacker grabs your right lapel with their left hand . With your left hand reach over top of their hand and grab the fleshy part of their hand by their little finger. Turn to the left and step with your right foot into a front stance. (you will step at a 450 left of your original position) into a front stance with the left foot. As your turn, twist their hand off your lapel and with your right hand under their elbow, push upward. They will bend over; you should stay in the front stance position with your back straight. Follow the turn and twist with a downward elbow strike to their elbow. Do not actually separate their hand from your chest, rather use your chest to push toward them. The bends their wrist inward and causes pain.
  2. Attacker grabs both of your lapels with both of their hands. With your left hand reach over their right hand and grab their left wrist. With your right hand reach under their left hand and grab the back of their right hand. Turn to the left and step with your right foot toward the attacker at a 450 into a front stance. As you turn, pull their left hand off your lapel by twisting with your right hand and pushing up with your left elbow. By separating their arms you can lock their elbows around each other. Let go with your right hand and execute an elbow strike to the attacker. (T.A.C. does specify where to strike.)

  1. Standing side by side, attacker grabs your left shoulder with his right outstretched hand. With your left arm rotate counterclockwise up, over and behind his outstretched arm. You may need to step to your left in order to cause his arm to bend at the elbow. Continue your left arm rotation hooking his arm behind his biceps thus causing his elbow to bend outward. The attacker will be forced to bend backwards. With your free right fist punch either his chest or his face.
  2. From in front attacker grabs both of your shoulders at the top with both of his hands. With your right leg step back into a front stance. Bring both hands underneath his outstretched arms and in a quick snapping motion, perform a double high block. This will be similar to the move in Pal Che So. This will cause the opponent to release his grip. Again like Pal Che So, snap both hands down to ear level, and then strike both sides of his chest with the insides of your fists.

  1. With his outstretched right hand, the attacker grabs the hair on the top of your head. With both hands grab the attacker‘s hand by sliding your thumbs between his hand and your scalp. You fingers will be on the back of his hand. Hold so tight that the attacker cannot release his grip. With your right foot slide backwards into a Front Stance. With your right foot kick him in the groin.
  2. With his outstretched right hand, the attacker grabs your belt. With both hands grab your opponent’s wrist, thumbs on the top, fingers underneath. Do not allow your opponent to let go. Do not allow your opponent’s wrist to bend upward or downward, only sideways. Turn to the left and with your left foot, step into a front stance. This movement should occur with great waist twist. Again, do not allow your opponent to let go. At this time you may with your right foot, step over his arm and sit down on (therefore breaking) his outstretched arm.
  3. Attacker grabs you from the front as if tackling with both arms stretched around your back. Stop the attacker’s momentum by stepping back into a low Front Stance. Grab the attacker’s belt and knee them in the solar plexus. Subsequently execute a downward elbow strike to their back.
Extras:
From behind attacker grabs both of your shoulders at the top with both of his hands . With your right leg step back to the left between you and the opponent. Rotate your right arm upward and backward around both of the attacker’s arms locking them underneath your right arm. With your left hand punch their face or rib cage.
